CONTINENTAL: DETROIT

Overview:

Prince Concepts acquired this monument and 7 acres of land in 2018 with the intent to preserve, not develop. The idea wasn’t to make these buildings buildings, again, but to maintain them as monuments and develop projects around them - imagine something like the Colosseum in Rome. When that monument was no longer being used, it was preserved, and continues to be a focal point radiating history and myth at the center of Rome to this day. In 2021, Prince Concepts sold this property, realizing that making a place, a real place with a real community was hard work that can’t easily be scaled. The decision was made to focus all energy on Core City and to ensure that it becomes a neighborhood that radiates myth and magic in the near and far future. Philip Kafka co-taught courses at: Yale University School of Architecture, University of Arkansas School of Architecture, and IIT - Chicago covering this property.
