The CHOP SHOP: DETROIT

Overview:

The Chop Shop sits at the Western border of the Prince Concepts Core City neighborhood project. It is a strong and special bookend, and shares the responsibility of framing the neighborhood with Core City Park and the commercial corridor surrounding it: MAGNET, The Sawtooth, Pie, and the Powerplant Buildings. This building began its life as a railroad spur where rail cars were fixed and refurbished, became a chop shop where cars were taken apart and stripped, legally, and then became a chop shop, again, where the same activity was happening, illegally; now, it’s ready for a Genesis. The site is 1.25 Acres and has some amazing old bones framing wheat certainly wants to be a park and public courtyard.
